I was recently asked, "why do you paint" ? I replied, "Just do", no one has ever asked me that yet, all you art lovers browzing this site read my schmooz. People have been painting pictures on walls since the stone age its a basic human need, think of a world without it, not good is it. Many occupations in this world we are made to do appear pointless, its a great privilege and basic freedom to do paintings in this location and show it via internet. I value this very highly would defend with justice anyone's right anywhere in the world to paint pictures and be able to show them to the public.
My art education in the 1960s and 70s was traditional and disciplined a third of the curriculum had compulsory life drawing and painting. Since 1980, building up a rich thick paint texture as is technically possible without losing the image and staying representational is one preoccupation. Researching new subject matter looking at people in very bad photographs and CCTV, trying an almost monochrome look with text is the most recent project. Have never needed to make a similar image more than three or four times but appreciate other painters who always have a lifelong obsession with the same theme. Somehow I don't know why or how, we all seem to share something recognisable in common working in this location, can anyone tell us what it is? more.....
